Young adults aged 20-35, join the Brothers and Sisters of St. John and other Catholic Young Adults July 11 - 21, 2019 to explore this year's theme "All in a Day's Work: Seeing Man's Work from God's Perspective ". The days take the rhythm of the liturgical observances of the Community of St. John. We will begin by hiking the Crow Pass Trail, part of the historic Iditarod trail. This is a well-known trail in Alaska, and you can find much good information about the hike on the internet. In short, the trail runs from outside Girdwood, AK up and over Crow Pass, then down into a valley, across Eagle River to the Eagle River Nature Center where the trail ends. The trail is about 24 miles long. We will brave the challenges of crossing the glacial water of Eagle River and discover God in the beauty of Alaskan Wilderness.
Participants should be able to carry a backpack filled with personal and group gear and weighing about 40 pounds for the duration of the hike. At different points in the hike the weather conditions can range from 80 degrees and sunny to 30 degrees and sleet. There is no cell phone service on this hike. The camp sites have no facilities. You must be in shape and fit enough to walk steeply uphill continuously for 3 miles carrying a 40 pound backpack. A good attitude is required.
When we return from the wilderness, we will continue our institute at Holy Spirit Center, on the hillside overlooking Anchorage. The days are dynamic and thought-provoking. This is your chance to discern your place as a young adult in the church as well as to search for truth and why it is important. Participants can expect to share a bedroom with another person and to use shared bathrooms. Meals will be provided.
This program is limited to 20 participants.
